Recalls of artificial baby milk are not at all uncommon. Artificial baby milk has been recalled for contamination by Salmonella, Klebsiella Pneumonia, bits of ground glass as well as lumped and curdled milk contaminants

SIMILAC: February 2, 2005 — The Ross Products Division of Abbott announced today that it is voluntarily recalling one lot of Similac Advance with Iron powdered infant formula in 12.9–ounce cans, Lot Number 20307RB, due to the presence of black plastic particles. Press Release.

Wyeth Nutritionals Inc.-Certain lots of powdered infant formula manufactured between July 12 and September 25, 2002, may be contaminated with Enterobacter sakazakii. E. sakazakii is a food borne pathogen that can in rare cases cause sepsis (bacteria in the blood), meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain), or necrotizing enterocolitis (severe intestinal infection) in newborn infants, particularly premature infants or other infants with weakened immune systems.
